We´re as near or as far from the action as you want to be.

La Joya Hotel is conveniently located within the heart of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, 7,200 ft above sea level. Our boutique hotel is one block from the walking street Real de Guadalupe, two blocks from the Zócalo and cathedral, and an easy walk to the open markets, restaurants, shops, and lively nightlife hangouts.

Behind our adobe wall are private and shared spaces, gardens, patios, five stunning suites, as well as a cozy living room, and spacious dining room. We encourage you to explore San Cristóbal de Las Casas and surrounding villages and then return to relax in our beautiful and intimate spaces.

There is no need to have a car in San Cristóbal. Taxis are readily available as are tours to surrounding Maya communities, natural wonders, and archeological sites. If you have a car, there is a guarded parking lot nearby.

Welcome to our home.

La Joya Hotel is our dream. For several years it took shape through the hands of our team of talented workers and artisans. It reflects our sense of adventure and our appreciation for culture, art, history, beauty, and comfort. Each room and our shared spaces are inspired by Mexican and colonial traditions: Talavera tile from Dolores Hidalgo, copper from Michoacan, tin from San Miguel de Allende, lanterns from Puebla, old columns and roof tiles from San Cristóbal de Las Casas, beams, pechos de paloma, local limestone and barro tile, brick fireplaces, plus textiles, art and photography by local artists. We hope you will join us for a rich and unforgettable experience!

More than 20 years with Peace Corps have taken us around the world where we’ve collected not only wonderful memories, but also art and artifacts that are displayed throughout La Joya Hotel. After retiring from Peace Corps, we have continued to support NGO´s  that partner with groups who serve disadvantaged communities in Chiapas. We are members of Amigos de San Cristóbal, and Ann is an advisor to Natik.  San Cristóbal is now our home and we look forward to sharing our experiences with fellow travelers. Our residence is above the hotel, so we are available whenever and as often as you need us.

To preserve the tranquility of La Joya Hotel, you won’t find our name on the front wall.  Instead, look for our logo above our elaborately carved wooden doors.
